The Glade on Little Island is a place to hang out, but also an intimate concert space.
The concert space is used during 12 weeks of music, dance and more. Little Island, the two-year-old public park, is located between West 13th and 14th streets in Hudson River Park.
“We really have had a beautiful set of concerts by a number of Jazz artists, Broadway Tony-winning artists, Grammy nominees, and the plethora of artists allows us to really create an experience that really follows the breadth and depth of New York City,” Ras Dia, creative producer for Little Island, said.
The Glade features bench seating prioritized for those with disabilities, and a sloping lawn where folks can hang out and enjoy the show and some views.
“The qualities of vista, here you have a relationship to the water and cityscape, over here if you are sitting at the back of the glad you can see all of the Meatpacking District, to the north you get views of New Jersey and of course midtown, it really is the idea that Little Island is supposed to be a reflection of our city so it’s an opportunity to take it in and appreciate it,” Dia said.
Visitors will, of course, appreciate the performances by artists, some who are early in their career, others emerging or more established. In some cases, they are trying out something new for fans in attendance.
“The dynamism and the electricity of new work being created and generated in this space is a joy,” Dia said.
There are performances on Little Island Wednesday through Sunday. The season lasts through Sept. 3. Plan your visit at Little Island's website.
