LOS ANGELES — The Palisades Symphony is holding a Fire Recovery Benefit Concert to raise money for musicians and music organizations who were impacted by the recent wildfires.

It’s a very personal issue for the tightknit group.

Six members of the orchestra lost their homes in the fire, including bass player John Graves, who evacuated with his father, who has Parkinson’s disease, his cat, and a few instruments.

Everything else was lost, he says, including furniture his grandfather had made and the contents of his music studio.

Music director Maxim Kuzin says the concert is the group’s natural response to the natural disaster.

“As musicians, our human response is to help somehow,” he explained. “How we can help is to do music. This is our way to support.”

The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16  at the Westwood United Methodist Church.
