A new report by the Center for Fair Futures, and a coalition of policymakers and nonprofits, is looking to create new homes for adults who are aging out of the foster care system.
Their goal is to create 800 new homes in the next five years.
Teens and young adults in foster care are at a greater risk of experiencing homelessness.
Research from the National Institutes of Health shows more than 30% of transition-aged foster youth experienced homelessness at least once before turning 26. Another third are forced to stay in the city’s care longer because they cannot afford a place to live.
Tracy Jenkins, the executive director for the Center for Fair Future, and Jeremy Kohomban, the president and CEO of The Children’s Village, joined “The Rush Hour” on Thursday to talk about the report and the importance of creating safe, long-term solutions.
