A new documentary is taking viewers back to New York City in 1975, when economic stagnation and mismanagement of the city’s budget nearly led the city of dreams into its own financial nightmare.
The result was shuttered schools and firehouses, worker strikes and mountains of garbage on the streets.
But the resilience of New Yorkers prevailed as the city somehow united to pull itself out of financial ruin.
The story is told in a new documentary called “Drop Dead City,” which premieres at the IFC Center, Friday, April 25.
Michael Rohatyn, the director of the documentary, and Peter Goldmark, former New York state budget director, joined “The Rush Hour” on Thursday to talk about the fiscal crisis.
