Firefighters battled two separate fires in Brooklyn on Sunday, one of which critically injured three children, authorities said.
One of the fires broke out inside an apartment on the 11th floor of a 14-story building at 383 Livonia Ave. in Brownsville just after 11 a.m., FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh said at a news briefing.
Firefighters found three children, ages 8, 5 and 4, unconscious inside the apartment, FDNY Chief of Department John Hodgens said at the briefing.

- The fire that injured the children broke out inside an apartment in Brownsville Sunday morning, the FDNY said. A second fire broke out inside a commercial building in Williamsburg around noon on Sunday, according to the department
- The NYPD on Monday said the three children’s father was taken into custody after the fire and then arrested. He faces three counts of abandonment of a child and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child for leaving his children alone in the apartment
Emergency responders performed CPR on the children and administered “advanced life-saving care” at the scene before they were hospitalized, Hodgens said.
“Thanks to the quick intervention of our members, those kids are stable at this point, but still in extremely critical condition,” Kavanagh said. “Our thoughts are with the family at this time.”
Kavanaugh said the three children were home alone when the fire broke out.
"The parents have been found. They're speaking to the mother. The father has been arrested, and the circumstances are under investigation as to why they were home alone," she said.
The NYPD on Monday said the children’s father, 37-year-old Anthony Halliburton, was taken into custody after the fire and then arrested. He faces three counts of abandonment of a child and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child for leaving his children alone in the apartment, according to police.
Halliburton's attorney information wasn't immediately available Monday.
