The “How Many Stops Act” requires cops to officially document most conversations they have with the public. The bill was passed by the City Council in December.
NYPD officials highlighted the number of interactions police had with the public in their search for the suspect involved in the stabbing spree in Queens, announced at a news briefing.
“This case personifies why we have a great deal of concern because I don’t want our officers to spend a substantial amount of time filling out paperwork when I need them to do police work,” Mayor Eric Adams said at the briefing.
The bill’s co-prime sponsor, Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, joined “The Rush Hour” to respond to controversy surrounding the bill.
