Democratic Assemblyman Brian Kavanagh is expected to fill the Lower Manhattan state senate seat vacated by Daniel Squadron.

The Manhattan Democratic County Committee met Sunday to choose its candidate for the November ballot.

While Democrat Paul Newell received more votes, Kavanagh is expected to have the support of Brooklyn party leaders.

That should be enough to secure him the nomination.

The senate seat straddles both New York and King's counties. Mayor Bill de Blasio, City Comptroller Scott Stringer, and Public Advocate Letitia James have endorsed Kavanagh for the seat, which is safely Democratic.
