COLUMBUS, Ohio — From a galaxy far, far away comes a Star Wars event hosted by Columbus Metropolitan Library, in partnership with the 501st Legion – Ohio Garrison.
On Saturday, May 3, the Main Library, on 96 S. Grant Ave. will be transformed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Main Library will have a swoop bike, a TIE fighter cockpit, a droid depot, a Jawa kitchen and a display on the famed blue milk organized by the Tatooine Dairy Farms. Costumed characters will also be at the event leading to plenty of photo opportunities.
“We know that not everyone can afford to travel to the Disney Star Wars theme parks in Orlando, Florida or Anaheim, California,” said 501st Legion member Josh Beale. “Our goal is to bring the joy of Star Wars to kids and adults throughout Ohio with this free public event so they can feel that special movie magic right here in Columbus!”
The 501st Legion is an international costuming club with more than 14,000 active members in 69 countries and six continents. There are more than 200 members in the Ohio Garrison, which represents the state. In central Ohio, Arch City Squad represents the region and has more than 40 local members.
Activities kick off at 9 a.m. with different events around the library, including:
- Build your own lightsaber, while supplies last (Reading Room)
- Explore set recreations and props recreated from Star Wars (Reading Room)
- Crafts and activities (Reading Room)
- Star Wars Storytime at 11 a.m. (Children's Area)
- Star Wars Trivia from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. (Reading Room)
Visitors can also make a donation of nonperishable items to the Mid-Ohio Food Collective Food Drive throughout the event in the Reading Room. For a list of requested items, click here.
