STERLING, Mass. - Davis Farmland recently welcomed six new members to its family, and the newborn baby lambs are a rarity - sextuplets.

What You Need To Know

  • Six lambs were recently born at Davis Farmland, the first time the farm has had sextuplets

  • All of the lambs were born by an ewe named Linda, and the mother and all her babies are healthy

  • Their names include coffee, cold brew, espresso, mocha and chai due to their high energy

  • Davis Farmland opens on April 17

All of the lambs were born by a ewe named Linda, and the livestock team lead by Alexa Olson has been busy. Although the lambs are only a couple of weeks old, they’ve got plenty of energy.

“She’s doing great, and all the babies are healthy,” Olson said. “They can have up to seven, but this is the first time we’ve had six here at our farm, so it’s really exciting.”

Although these lambs in particular might not fit the description, fully-grown Finnsheep are known for their calm personalities. Their names also run a bit contrary to staying calm.

“These guys are coffee, cold brew, espresso, mocha and chai,” Olson said. “We thought the caffeine names, since they were so high energy right from birth, was perfect for them.”

This spring, families will be able to meet the lambs up close, and Co-Owner Larry Davis said it’s a great opportunity for kids to be able to connect with animals in a hands-on, educational setting.

“It’s moments like this when you have the six babies that really brings it home, I mean, that’s what we do here,” Davis said.

And the lambs aren’t the only baby animals that Davis Farmland has been busy with.

“We have loads of lambs, baby goats, bunnies, kittens, baby chicks,” Olson said. “Some of our bigger babies include a baby llama, a baby alpaca and then a Scottish highland calf.”

Davis Farmland opens for the season on April 17, and other new features for this season include new playgrounds and a new spray park, which is expected to be ready by mid-June.
