If you're looking for high energy, you've come to the right place at a Gogol Bordello concert.

The band is led by Ukrainian-born singer Eugene Hütz, with members from around the world. NY1 spoke with Hütz at Brooklyn Bowl to talk about the band's four upcoming shows at the Williamsburg venue, leading up to a New Year's Eve performance.

  • It's the group's 16th time ringing in the new year with shows

It's the group's 16th time ringing in the new year with their own brand of punk rock.

"It certainly deserves the kind of all-night moment. That's how you want to go into the portal of the new year," said Hütz, whose family members came to the United States as political refugees in the early 1990s.

Each night of the residency at Brooklyn Bowl, which runs from Dec. 28 through New Year's Eve, will feature special guests, including bands from Hütz's record label, Casa Gogol. Hütz has been a big supporter of the New York music scene ever since his arrival in town.

"New York City is a city that gave me and all of us everything, you know. We are just kind of giving it back, in that sense," Hütz said. He says he relishes the chance to play into a new year, with a band that he says has the ability to unify people.

"Whether it's Australia or Japan or Brazil, it's the type of music that's already in your DNA, and you know, kind of gets everyone dancing around that punky fire," Hütz said.

Hütz says it's all about creating a community that is diverse and vital, and at the end of the day, everybody needs each other in the musical community. For ticket information, head to Brooklyn Bowl's website.
