Fields was expecting her third child with fiancé Jose Perez.

Perez told NY1, "I have no answers."

  • The family is considering legal action against Woodhull Hospital

According to her family, Fields checked into NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull on Nov. 12 with a detailed birth plan, however the doula she previously worked with wasn’t on duty. Doctors eventually told Fields she needed emergency C-section surgery.

Relatives said Fields spoke up after surgery, requesting medical help, but was ignored.

The hospital responded to concerns from Fields’ family and told NY1 in a statement: “The health and safety of our patients is our highest priority, and we express our sincere condolences to those affected by this tragic loss.”

A spokesperson for the hospital added, “NYC Health + Hospitals has a steadfast commitment to providing quality, dignified, culturally responsive care to all New Yorkers without exception.”

Fields’ mother, Denene Witherspoon, said Thursday, “We have not heard anything from the hospital not an apology, not a sorry, not anything. No phone calls, nothing.”

In recent days, family and friends of Christine Fields have rallied outside Woodhull as their search for answers continues.

“I want people to remember Christine Fields,” Perez said.

The son Fields gave birth to is now home from the hospital with his father and siblings.
