  • Gov. Greg Abbott, appearing on Fox News Monday, fired back at New York City Mayor Eric Adams over his criticism of Texas' policy of busing migrants to cities led by Democrats

  • Adams earlier referred to Abbott as a "madman." Abbott called his remark "outrageous" and said Adams "could not last a week in Texas"

  • Texas has bused more than 13,700 migrants to New York, according to Abbott

  • Adams called the influx of migrants in New York a crisis

Adams called Abbott, a Republican, a “madman” for busing migrants from Texas to cities including New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver and Washington, D.C.

Abbott called Adams “outrageous,” and said he “could not last a week in Texas.”

Abbott on Sept. 9 tweeted that Texas has bused more than 13,700 migrants to New York alone. He said the state has bused more than 11,400 migrants to Washington, D.C., more than 7,200 to Chicago, more than 1,100 to Denver, more than 2,600 to Philadelphia and more than 530 to Los Angeles. The latest busload of migrants arrived in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Adams has complained that all five New York boroughs are overwhelmed by thousands of migrants. Abbott argues that’s nothing compared to the influx Texas border cities handle.

“They have so few migrants in New York compared with what we deal with every single day in Texas,” Abbott said. “It’s just outrageous he would make a comment like that. However, I gotta add this: What’s maddening is the fact that in New York and Chicago and DC and other places, they’ve put out policies self-proclaiming that they’re sanctuary cities.”

Adams earlier described the situation in New York as a crisis.

“Madman down in Texas decided he wanted to bus people up to New York City—a 110,000 migrants we have to feed, clothe, house, educate the children, wash their laundry sheets, give them everything they need, health care,” he said.

Last week, the Los Angeles Times reported the Biden administration is considering a plan that involves requiring some migrant families to remain near the Texas-Mexico border while awaiting asylum screenings.
