BROOKLYN, N.Y. — A 13-year-old girl was hsopitalized in critical condition Thursday morning after being hit by a truck in Brooklyn.

The NYPD says it happened around 7:30 a.m. near Avenue J and Coney Island Avenue in Midwood.

Police say she had gotten off an MTA bus and was crossing the street when she was hit by a box truck.

The person behind the wheel of the box truck, a 35-year-old man, stayed at the scene. 

Police say the girl was not in the crosswalk when she was struck, and they don’t suspect any criminality in the crash.

The accident comes a little more than a week after a 15-year-old girl was killed in a hit-and-run in Sheepshead bay.

Last week, Mayor Eric Adams announced the Department of Transportation will make design improvements to a thousand intersections in the hopes of making them safer for New Yorkers.

According to preliminary data from the DOT, there have been at least 10 pedestrian fatalities so far this year. This time last year, there were five pedestrian fatalities.
