FORT BRAGG , N.C. -- A new training range at Fort Bragg may be the first of its kind. It is designed to simulate combat underground.

The goal is to prepare soldiers for all kinds of urban warfare so that when they confront going underground in a war zone, it won’t be the first time they’ve faced such a challenge.

The underground range has many tunnels and dark corridors, which are difficult to get around in.

Communication while there is also difficult because radio waves do not transmit underground.

The new range is about 90 percent complete. Final improvements will be added to it over the next three weeks.
