The first submissions are rolling in for the Coney Island USA "Put on a Funny Face Mask Contest," presented by Spectrum News NY1.
The contest is being run by the organizers of the Mermaid Parade, which was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The goal is to celebrate creativity while highlighting the importance of wearing masks.
Celebrity judges will pick the winners in 11 categories.
NY1 will help pick the best mask that highlights New York in the "One New York" category.
Organizers say it's a fun way for people to express themselves.
"It's important that people everywhere wear masks, and we're Americans, and we're going to do it in style, and we're going to honor it," said Coney Island USA board member Mark Alhadeff.
Entries must be submitted by May 24, and the winners will be announced on June 1.
