The Parks Department's Senior Games kicked off Monday with an 11 mile torch run from the Fort Hamilton Senior Recreation Center to the Brownsville Recreation Center. The week long games feature events like bowling, swimming, basketball, table tennis and more for seniors 50 and older. The kick off celebration also included dance performances by the seniors.
“I’m diabetic and one of my things is not to be on medication and having a good diet and exercising kind of keeps my blood sugar down,” said 67 year old runner Leroy Cummins.
All participants have been training for the past four months with free clinics at their local senior centers. More than ten competitions will take place this week. It’s all to promote the importance of exercising and healthy living. This is the 4th year of the event.
