Thousands of protesters, including students, rallied in Manhattan on Saturday after traveling over the Brooklyn Bridge in a youth-led march to denounce gun violence.
"We have shootings every single day in this country," protester Felix Tager said. "The more we work together to kind of make our legislators hear us, the better this will be and the sooner we're going to be able to fix this."
People from all over the country demonstrated, calling for an end to mass shooting, demanding gun control, and trying to apply pressure on elected officials they say are not doing enough to keep young people safe.
"We want our schools to be more protected, we want our children to be protected," protester Sheena Tucker said. "We need more protection out here for our kids, and not just on the streets."
Most demonstrators wore orange in solidarity of Gun Violence Awareness Weekend.
A city organization, Youth Over Guns, organized the protest. Other organizations, including Women's March, the American Federation of Teachers, and New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, joined to promote an end to gun violence.
Organizers said their goal is to empower young people and push for investments in urban communities.
The march began at the Korean War Veterans Plaza in Brooklyn, and a rally followed in Foley Square.
An organizer said students who have experienced gun violence would speak at the rally.
