AUSTIN, Texas – A tip to Austin police about a husband claiming to have killed his wife led officers to find the body of a woman in Southeast Austin on Thursday.

Austin police identified the deceased woman as Patricia Campos, 54, and her husband as Jose Israel Amaya, 39.

Detectives were able to track down Amaya after his acquaintance reported a text message he received stating a husband had "murdered his wife." Upon determining the name of the man’s wife, police called Campos' employer who said she had been missing from work for two days.

A SWAT team was called to execute a search warrant of the man’s home. Inside the house on the 5400 block of La Loma Lane, a Campos' body was found along with her husband.

Amaya is being charged with murder, which is a first degree felony.

Anyone with information is asked to call Austin homicide detectives at 512-477-3588.
