The Olympics may be over but the Gold Medal winning Women's Hockey team is still making an impression here in Rochester.
"Once they called it up, I was like 'they got it, they got this,'" said Olivia Hollenbeck, a Forward for Rochester Edge Girls Tier 1 team.
Hollenbeck and her teammates watched on in anticipation as the women earned redemption against Canada in dramatic fashion.
"We sat around and stayed up until like 2 in the morning and watched the game," said Autumn Mish, who plays Defense.
"I just watched how they moved the puck, how they skated with speed, how they passed and how they worked hard every shift, every second to win," said Forward Lian Sydorowicz.
"I won a championship last year and it went into a shootout, and so I remembered feeling all that weight and all that pressure coming down on me, and I just couldn't imagine what she must be going through," said Goalie Angel Bennett.
And in PyeonChang it was the women's team that gave fans back home something to root for and even aspire to.
"Even thought the men got out, the women are just as powerful, maybe more powerful apparently," said Hollenbeck.
"Everyone usually looks up to boys hockey, but for girls it's more difficult because we can't get into the NHL or anything, but at least we have the Olympic girls to look up to like 'we could get there someday,'" said Luciana Robertelli, a Goalie.
"It's a great feeling that now women are getting just as much recognition as the men, because it's always been the opposite way," said Mish.
Most of the Rochester Edge players have their sights set on a Division I roster spot, but still dreams of wearing the red, white and blue aren't far from their minds.
"Watching the Olympics, it just makes me want to get there," said Robertelli.
"I look up to all the Olympic team, all the players, because they made it there and they had the heart to win," Sydorowicz.
"They achieved their dream and their goals and now I feel like I can do the same thing," Bennett.
And these girls don't have to wait for Bejing 2022, they have the chance to become champions when they attend the State Tournament in March.
