One of the city's only female-owned and operated independent record labels in the city, is looking to build off its success from 2017 and develop more female artists in 2018.

Brooklynite Anastasia Wright launched IMG Records in 2016, as an added service to her artist development and music marketing company, IMG Agency.

The label was launched the mission of being a label for women, by women.

And since its inception, Wright and her one other full time employee have signed two female artists.

She tells us the recent climate of women empowerment will only help her thrive.

"What we have been able to do is show that you can be yourself and you can tell your story and there is profitability in that. You don't have to be overly sexy, you don't have to confine yourself to what men's standards are," said Wright.

Tangina Stone was IMG's first signing.  The Brooklyn woman's debut album "Elevate," produced by an all female crew, has been a hit in Japan, where she plans to tour later this year.
