Jilly Stephens, the CEO of emergency food provider City Harvest, joined Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Tuesday to implore government agencies to do more as rates of food insecurity and poverty remain higher than pre-pandemic levels.

“Organizations like City Harvest and other emergency food providers cannot do this alone. We were founded nearly 40 years ago to help fill in the gap. Now the gap is yawning, it’s so wide,” Stephens said. “There’s definitely an increased role for city, state, and federal government when it comes to food insecurity, not just in New York City but across the country as a whole.”

A new report from City Harvest revealed that child hunger in New York City is 55% higher than pre-pandemic levels.
