It's all adding up for a middle school math team in Forest Hills, thanks to a dedicated graduate and his dad. NY1's Leisha Majtan filed this report.

Every Monday night, a family dining room in Forest Hills transforms into a classroom.

The dining room is in the home of Jacky Han, who isn't a teacher by trade but has a passion for math.

Han's son Robin is a graduate of Russell Sage Junior High School.

During his time there, he was a top performer on the school's math team.

Now, the Hans’ are both sharing their skills with current students at the school.

"My school gives so many opportunities. We have so many wonderful teachers. And they're so willing to help out and give so much to us and that's one of the reasons why I feel like I should give back," said 16-year-old Robin Han.

Even though Robin is now a sophomore at Stuyvesant, the Han family opens their doors to the Russell Sage math team weekly.

During that time they tutor students and prepare them for upcoming competitions.

"When Robin was in the middle school, he received a lot of help. So I said this was the perfect time to give back to this community, to this school," said Jacky Han, NY1's Queens Person of the Week.

Eighth-grade teacher Will Collins leads the team and says its growth over the school year would not be possible without Jacky and Robin.

"He's a special kid. I've been teaching a long time and I've been blessed with a lot of great kids but it just goes to show his character that he wanted to come back," said Will Collins, and 8th-grade math teacher at Russell Sage Junior High School.

The young mathematicians who come to study with the Hans' couldn't agree more.

"Having them actually spend the time to teach us and with Robin coming all the way from Stuyvesant every Monday is really amazing," said Jonathan Wan, a 6th-grade student at J.H.S. 190.

A little time plus some school pride is what Robin says is, undoubtedly, the answer the team needs to advance.

"I feel this is important to me and I want this to continue not only for this year but next year and the next, for as long as I'm in high school," added Robin Han.

And so for giving these students a formula for success, Robin and Jacky Han are our Queens People of the Week.
