With the many entertainment choices New York City has to offer, it can be difficult to make a choice. Look no further. “On Stage” host Frank DiLella has curated a list of “must-see” shows this week, directing you to the best of Broadway, off-Broadway and beyond.
“Gutenberg! The Musical!”
Dream duo Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad return to the boards this week in the new show “Gutenberg! The Musical!”
The musical centers around two pals trying to create a show.
“Gutenberg! The Musical” is in previews at the James Earl Jones Theatre, and opening night is set for Oct. 12.
“Swing State”
Moving off-Broadway, down at the Minetta Lane Theatre, check out “Swing State” — a new play by Pulitzer Prize finalist Rebecca Gilman.
In this New York premiere, we meet Peg, a widow in her 60s, and Ryan, a recovering alcoholic in his 20s.
After Peg notices her dead husband’s toolbox is missing, she makes a call to the local authorities. Her call initiates a sequence of events that leaves an enduring impact on her small Wisconsin community.
“Swing State” runs through Oct. 21.
Brooke Shields at the Cafe Carlyle
On the cabaret front, don’t miss the one and only Brooke Shields at the Cafe Carlyle.
In her latest club act, “Previously Owned by Brooke Shields,” the fashion icon and actress promises an evening of candid and hilarious stories with songs.
Brooke is at the Cafe Carlyle through Sept. 23.
