LOUISVILLE, Ky. — While anticipation builds for the first Saturday in May for the Kentucky Derby, there’s a different race this Saturday. Five hundred ducks will drop into a gated area of the Ohio River for the annual Ken-Ducky Derby duck race.

  •  The Ken-Ducky Derby is Saturday, April 26 at Waterfront Park in Louisville

  •  500 ducks will drop into a gated part of the Ohio River to race

  • The event raises money for Harbor House Louisville
  • The call to post starts at 4 p.m.

The annual event takes place during Kroger’s Fest-a-Ville at Louisville’s Waterfront Park on Saturday, April 26. The event is a fundraiser for the Harbor House of Louisville. Harbor House aims to empower people of all ages, abilities and aspirations by providing vocational, health, and education services. 

“It’s important because, at Harbor House, no day is the same. You experience participants that maybe never had the opportunity to live the quality of life they deserve,” said Madison Jaggers of the Harbor House Louisville.

You can support the cause by adopting a duck for the race online. They will sell ducks until 3 p.m. on Saturday. One grand prize winner takes home a brand new car.

Here is a schedule of events at Waterfront Park for Saturday, April 26:

  • 1 p.m. - Kids activities begin
  • 3 p.m. - Duck waddle parade
  • 4 p.m. - Call to post and duck drop
  • 5 p.m. - Winners announced
