CLEVELAND — Friday is Arbor Day, and a number of places in the Buckeye State were celebrating.
At the Cleveland Botanical Garden's Community Day, volunteers planted a persimmon tree off East Boulevard.
But this work goes beyond Arbor Day and comes from the work of many volunteers.
"It takes a village to make a forest," Volunteer Chris Lakus said. "So it takes more than one person. I think of myself. I can be a coach. I can be the general manager, but I'm not the team. The team is here...Every single one of you who are sitting here have done something."
Leaders say they exceeded their tree planting goals.
The celebration also included seedling giveaways and an interactive nature question and answer session for kids.
The celebration continues Saturday, with free admission at Holden Arboretum.
