PINELLAS PARK, Fla. — Welcome to Showtime Speedway, which is next to Ulmerton Road, just south the St. Pete Clearwater International Airport.
It’s a place where a straight track is called a drag, and an oval one races figure 8s.
Robert Yoho is the owner of Showtime Speedway in Pinellas Park, and he races in an Outlaw Figure 8 race car, but he’s got a few others.
Yoho bought the speedway more than a dozen years ago.
“It’s a 3/8-mile track. We do anything from drifting, super late models, Outlaw Figure 8's, mini stock, street stock, Crown Vics, you name it,” said Yoho.
As a teen, he worked here, his family raced here and his pals too. He wants to keep that community going.
“Some of these people are third and fourth generation racers,” said Yoho. “And you know we like to say, ‘Keep it off the streets and put it on the strip.’”
Yoho’s first race ever was at the same Speedway in a Ford Pinto, which he wrecked.
Showtime Speedway hosts races every Wednesday and Saturday night. They are in Pinellas Park with a Clearwater address.
