ORLANDO, Fla. — As Florida State University is dealing with Thursday’s deadly shooting, the University of Central Florida is offering resources to the Knight community.
Events like these are highly provoking, especially for college students, since the shooting took place on a college campus.
The UCF is letting its students know that there are resources available should they need them.
The university reminds students of its counseling and psychological services that offer mental health support through appointments and walk-ins.
A 24/7 crisis hotline is also available for those needing more immediate support.
Faculty members can also benefit from free mental health services through the employment assistance program by calling or visiting the UCF human resources website.
In its statement, the university wants people to know that “you are not alone. And we are here to listen and to help you feel safe, cared for and supported.”
The university stated that there will be a heightened police presence of officers on campus as the UCF Police Department maintains its 24/7 operations.
It also reminds people to remain vigilant, noting that if they see something, to say something by calling 911.
At the campus’ Live Oak Event Center, members of the UCF community are being invited to come together to reflect and support one another in this difficult time in what they are calling a shared space of comfort, healing and community.
People can drop by on Friday, April 18, between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. in the Magnolia Room.
