It’s no surprise that Texas’ cuisine is getting the recognition it deserves. Many surveys and magazines in the past have indicated that the Lone Star State has some of the top food scenes in America, including Food & Wine magazine’s Global Tastemakers Awards for 2025.

The awards are broken down into multiple categories, including the best cities for food, best restaurants, best pastries, best bars and best airports for food. It’s the third year the magazine has done these awards.

Austin ranked No. 4 in the category of best food cities in the U.S. The survey studied 182 cities—ranking Miami, San Francisco, and Orlando as top contenders. Also in the top 10 was Houston at No. 9.

Chip Lupo, a WalletHub analyst, noted the cities’ low-price options.

“These cities make delicious dining affordable for residents and visitors alike,” Lupo said. 

As well as affordable food, an Austin bar ranked at No. 6 for top bars in the country—Midnight Cowboy.

“The narrow, low-lit room has an intimate feel, with rows of black tufted-leather booths and exposed brick, a chill counterpoint to the raucous nightlife of so-called ‘Dirty Sixth,’ said the Food & Wine magazine article.

For the top hotel bars in the country, The Joule’s Midnight Rambler bar in Dallas came in at No. 8.

Additionally, on a list of the top 10 pastries in the U.S., Houston ranked No. 8 due to its cultural diversity. The magazine advised people to hit up the Original Kolache Shoppe when visiting. 

Not only that, but Texas’ other major metropolitan areas, Dallas and San Antonio, also found themselves on other foodie lists.

Austin and Dallas were back-to-back at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, on the list for top domestic airports for dining. 

With the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport’s unique local spots, rather than a classic fast-food chain, it makes for a great mid-travel pick me up, according to the magazine.

Lastly, San Antonio’s Hotel Emma ranks 10th for the best hotel food and drink in the country. Sitting in the Pearl District, it’s not surprising this old-fashioned hotel gets numerous visitors every year.
