TREASURE ISLAND, Fla. — Caddy's in Treasure Island reopened Thursday after being closed for months.
Major damage from the 2024 hurricanes left the restaurant in rough shape and they still can't use the main building.
A recently passed city ordinance is allowing them to open in a different way.
“We have just about the same amount of tables that we did outside, the beach tables, so that’s no loss there,” General Manager Stephen Santasieri said. “Inside is a little bit different.”
With the main building still severely damaged, Caddy’s said it needed this new setup.
From using a giant tent to cooking out of a food truck, Santasieri knows there are challenges ahead, but they’re thrilled to be serving people.
Treasure Island Mayor John Doctor said the ordinance allows places like Caddy’s to put a food truck on their property, portable toilets, a tent and more.
Doctor said before the ordinance passed, the maximum number of days the tent, food truck and everything else would have been allowed is nine days up four times in a row.
“We can make sure that we get six months at first,” he said. “And then we’ll give two additional 90 days, which will give you one full year to get back into business a permit status.”
