LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It’s Memorial Day weekend, and that means Louisville’s pools and spray pads are open for business.

  • Two outdoor pools are open this summer: Fairdale and Sun Valley

  • Admission is $2 for children 12 and under and $3 for adults

  • Algonquin Park and Camp Taylor pools are closed for renovations, and they are expected to reopen in 2025

Fairdale Pool at Nelson Hornbeck Park and the Sun Valley Park Pool opened Saturday, May 25 at noon. At Fairdale Pool, 10-year-old Jaxson slid his way into summer, and he said the water reminded him of a tropical vacation.

“(It) feels good; it reminds me a lot of Hawaii," he said.

The Fairdale Pool is open every day from noon to 5 p.m., except Mondays. Admission is $2 for children 12 and under and $3 for adults.

“I like how there is a slide over there and how easy it is to come here and how cheap," Jaxson said. "I think it's cool."

His great-grandmother, Peggy Pickard, was excited to hear about the pool's opening.

“I have my great grandkids, and I don't want to sit around the house and have them make me crazy,” Pickard said.

"It's just close; it's not an expensive thing, and the kids enjoy it. When they go home, they're done for the day, so I enjoy it. I enjoy the sun."

Two other city pools are under renovation and are closed this summer: Alonquin Park and Camp Taylor pools, which are expected to reopen in 2025.
