LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Drivers expecting to travel over the eastbound lanes of Interstate 64 on the Sherman Minton Bridge coming into Louisville from southern Indiana will have to wait a bit longer.

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, the bridge closure will remain in place until Friday, May 24, around 5 a.m. It had been scheduled to reopen on May 20 at 5 a.m. INDOT said the delay was because of "required maintenance of traffic adjustments."

INDOT said a single lane is expected to be open to traffic overnight and will remain open through Friday to allow for additional concrete curing time. It said the remaining two lanes will be opened on Friday, making three lanes open for the Memorial Day weekend.

“We regret any inconvenience to drivers caused by the delay of the reopening,” said Danny Corbin, INDOT Project Manager. “Crews are working to open the single lane as soon as possible.”

The closure began on May 6. Crews said it was necessary to finish concrete work on the lower bridge.

The Sherman Minton Bridge connects Louisville to New Albany over the Ohio River.
