According to police, they have a person of interest in custody in for the deaths. So far, the NYPD has not charged that individual in custody and has not released their name.

What You Need To Know

  • Police have identified the three people found dead in a Bronx apartment, including a 5-year-old boy. Loved ones said they were a mother, her son and the child’s father

  • The deceased are identified as Hanoi Peralta, 33, Kayden Rivera, her 5-year-old son, and Kayden’s father, Jonathan Rivera, 38

  • According to the NYPD, all three were declared dead at the scene

By Monday, on the gate of the building hung a balloon, candles and a sign with the phrase, ”R.I.P. JR, Hanoi, Kayden.” Condolences for Hanoi Peralta, 33, Kayden Rivera, her 5-year-old son, and Kayden's father, Jonathan Rivera, 38.

“I’m pissed, I’m torn, I’m numb, speechless,” said Eusebio Biaz, who said he has been friends with Rivera for years. “I woke up this morning thinking it was all a prank, but it’s not.”

Biaz said the two grew even closer after Rivera, an avid snowboarder, introduced Biaz to the sport. Biaz cannot believe Rivera won’t be sliding down snow-covered mountains anymore.

“Jonathan loved his family, worked hard,” he said. “All he cared about was snowboarding and his kids.”

“They were very nice people,” said Dahan Ali, the store clerk of the Neighborhood Grocery, which is next door to the apartment building. “I never see them argue with anyone or fight. Very respectful. I feel so bad.”

Ali said he last saw Peralta in Saturday when she went into his store. Surveillance video shows Peralta at the check-out counter.

Police said officers responded to a 911 call about an injured man at 674 East 136th Street in the Bronx at around 6:40 a.m. Sunday. Officials said they found Rivera lying unconscious in the hallway of the first floor with stab wounds to his torso.

They soon found Peralta and her son, who were also unconscious, with stab wounds to both of their bodies. All three were declared dead at the scene, according to the NYPD.

The tragedy has left neighbors in shock.

“Every time she came she was with her son,” said Pauletta Williams, a neighbor. “They both came down the block. I’ll be smiling here. They’ll be standing and waving at me and I’m like, ‘Oh my goodness, hi sweetie.’ And it hurts so bad because I’m a grandmother and a mother and it hurts to see that baby died like that.”

Biaz said Rivera and his son, Kayden, were almost inseparable because Rivera worked at Kayden’s school as a janitor. He said Rivera also has three other children.

“I think the most heartbreaking part is the fashion it happened,” he said.

To honor their friend, Biaz said he and Rivera’s friends are going to take part in what’s called a “ride out,” in which they ride to one of the mountains where Rivera enjoyed snowboarding and ride down the mountain on their snowboards in his memory.
