There was a united front against police brutality in the Bronx on Saturday.

“This has to stop happening. We can not have a system of policing with no accountability, where they literally have been sanctioned to murder Black and Brown folks,” said Tanesha Grand, the executive director of Parents Supporting Parents New York.

Activists held a rally Saturday where 30-year-old Eric Duprey was killed Wednesday evening.

The NYPD says plainclothes narcotics officers tried to arrest the victim for drug possession but he hopped on his motorcycle and fled down Aqueduct Avenue.

Surveillance video shows one of the cops throw a picnic cooler at Duprey causing him to lose control of his motorcycle, fall to the ground and die.

“There is no way that Sgt. Duran should’ve been able to have felt so free to pick up a cooler and throw it as a man’s head,” said Grand.

Saturday’s rally comes one day after the chief medical examiner determined that Duprey’s death was a homicide.

Family and friends constructed a makeshift memorial where members of the community can come to pay their respects.

“I came out here to support his family, to light a candle and show him love because he’s one of ours,” said a friend of Duprey’s who didn’t want to share his name.

Meanwhile, the NYPD took swift action against the officer involved: Sergeant Erik Duran, who is a 13-year veteran of the force.

“The police already told you how they feel about it. They suspended him without pay immediately. What’s New York state, New York City gonna do about it?” said Hawk Newsome, the co-founder of Black Lives Matter Greater New York.

In a statement, the family’s attorney said, “Another young man gone too soon at the hands of a reckless police officer — a loving partner, father and son who provided financial and emotional support to his family. Nothing can mitigate this family’s pain, but the individual who committed this heinous act must be held accountable.”

Activists echo that sentiment, demanding justice for Duprey and his family.

“I want New York State Attorney General Letitia James to charge this cooler killer, this killer cop, with murder now,” said Newsome.

The Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation has opened an investigation into Dupery’s death.
