TEXAS — Reggie Chaney, a former basketball star at the University of Houston and played and helped lead the Cougars to the Final Four in 2021, died unexpectedly Monday. He was 23 years old.

Chaney’s cause of death has not been made known as of Tuesday, according to multiple sources.

At the University of Houston, Chaney played three seasons from 2020 to 2023 and was a part of the team that made the Final Four in 2021. Chaney was also a part of the Cougar team that became the No.1 seed in the NCAA Tournament for the 2022-2023 season. He was named the the American Athletic Conference’s sixth man of the year in his final season.

After only graduating in May, Chaney was set to play in Greece with the Psychiko B.C., according to the Houston Chronicle.
