ORLANDO, Fla. — It's hot — very hot — with feel like temps reaching more than 100 degrees throughout the week.

All of this happening before summer even begins next week.

And this stretch of hot weather is creating busy times for AC repair companies.

  • Hot temperatures have created more calls for air conditioning service

A technician from Melbourne's Able Air said calls for service has increased by more than 25% as peoples' air conditioning units are struggling to keep up with the soaring heat.

Spectrum News 13 caught up with tech Josh Massaro and his team who were on yet another call.

Even newer units are struggling as feel like temps reach more than 100 degrees. Massaro's goal is to diagnose the issues.

"Seems like he might be low on refrigerant but he may have another issue as well," Massaro said.

This one crew is seeing seven to nine calls a day with the soaring heat causing problems. Shifts are nine to 12 hours long. And each job Massaro knows is important.

"We all have to play our part, and this is my part to play," he says.

Homeowner Steve Oktelo is grateful the team is working to get his home cool again. He says they are like heroes.

"They are, and to have somebody you can trust, because there's always that concern with a contractor, hey can you trust them," he said.

Less than an hour later, problem solved. Not enough refrigerant was getting inside.

The part will be ordered and they'll be back Monday.

"I wouldn't want to be sweating in my house," Massaro says.

Spectrum News 13 called a couple other A/C companies to check how busy they are in this heat. They said they were too busy to meet up with the news station  and with summer just a few days away, that could likely continue.
