Many New Yorkers were out at Orchard Beach to enjoy the sun and sand on Saturday.

Some say they were focusing on their health to start off their holiday weekend.

“We’re actually running a bootcamp and we’re teaching our clients that movement is medicine and we’re enjoying the time and the beach,” Stephanie Caban, a personal trainer in the Bronx, said.

She was training a group at the beach Saturday morning.

“It’s so far beautiful. There’s a nice breeze and there’s some sunlight, and we’re enjoying every moment of it,” said Caban.

The sun was shining brightly through a clear blue sky with families playing in the sand before the large crowds arrived.

Swimming in the water is prohibited when lifeguards are not on duty, but once they arrived at 10 a.m., beachgoers stepped in despite the water being on the more frigid side.

For the first time at Orchard Beach, the Parks Department says there will be a 10-trip parking pass that will save beachgoers $3 per trip on weekends and holidays.

“I’m happy that they’re going to do that and I will definitely get it,” said Bronxite Rosa Maria Martinez.

She told NY1 she visits frequently, year-round and recommends the beach to everyone.

“I normally here Saturday from 7 to 11 and it’s just perfect. I do my yoga and sometimes they have yoga classes here also and for the community I think this is one of the greatest places to be,” Martinez said.

According to the Parks Department, lifeguards are on duty every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Beaches will be open through Sept. 10.
