AKRON, Ohio — NBA star and Akron native LeBron James congratulated his alma mater, Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary, on its state championship win Sunday.

James, a 2003 graduate of ASVSM, congratulated the Fighting Irish on winning the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II state championship March 20.

The title was the second-consecutive championship for the Fighting Irish and their 10th overall, the most of any school in the OHSAA across all divisions.

He also congratulated ASVSM Coach Dru Joyce on winning his eighth title as coach.

James was a member of three state champion teams for Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary, winning the Division III title in 2000 and 2001, and winning the Division II title in 2003.

The Fighting Irish were the Division II runner-up team in 2002 with James on the team.
