AUSTIN, Texas — Texas French Bread, an Austin bakery that had been around since 1981, is a total loss after a fire gutted the building earlier this week.
The Austin Fire Department in a tweet Tuesday afternoon attributed the fire to an accident due to mechanical failure. Damage to the structure was estimated at $1.1 million and damage to contents was estimated at $500,000.
Now, a GoFundMe account has been set up with which people can donate to the owners. According to the organizer, funds will go directly to the staff.

As of Wednesday morning, $104,530 had been raised.
“Their beloved staff got out safely, but the building that has been home to the family-owned bakery for decades is destroyed, along with everything inside,” the fundraising page says. “Any help you can offer will go directly to help support staff. Beyond that, it is unclear what TFB's operating costs and insurance reimbursements could be going forward.”
Texas French Bread was located at 2900 Rio Grande Street, near the University of Texas at Austin.
