BUFFALO, N.Y. — As the strike at Mercy Hospital continues, a female patient reportedly walked out without being discharged.

Catholic Health says the patient has been there for more than six months.

Once caregivers noticed, they responded within minutes and the patient was brought back inside safely. Catholic Health says the woman hasn't needed acute medical care for some time.

Regulations prevent health care providers from using force to restrain patients, even if they have a tendency to wander. Case managers have been working to discharge her to another facility. Officials say all hospital procedures were followed.

They also informed the state department of health of the situation.

Since the strike began, Mercy Hospital reports the department of health has found no deficiencies in care.
