Police officials announcing Sergeant Detective Squad Cornelius Dougie Douglas passed away from cancer Thursday after only being diagnosed three weeks before. He retired one month ago after 35 years on the force...walking out of the 50th precinct where he worked with the Fugitive Enforcement Unit. Douglas started his career working with the New York City Transit Police and spent many years patrolling the subways. He earned the Police Combat Cross for stopping a suspect who shot and killed a police officer. Fellow officers say Douglas was a mentor to so many and helped to apprehend some of the most dangerous fugitives, meanwhile he was a caring soul with a bight smile. He leaves behind his wife Karen. He was 56 years old.
