A beekeeper is harvesting honey from hives on the roof of Saint Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx.

The rooftop is the now home to a quarter of a million bees.

The beekeeper collected over 150 pounds of honey in June that was later sold at the hospital.

The rooftop, which also includes a vegetable farm, is part of the hospital's health and wellness center.

It's set to open in October.

"They'll go two miles in every direction, pollinating flowers and plants, and the honey that they bring back is local and unique and delicious and healthy for you. So, we're very pleased with the results so far,” said the beekeeper, Eric Hanan.

"This is an innovative project whose mission is to transform the health of the Bronx. The Bronx perennially finishes in 62nd and last place when it comes to health outcomes,” said Steven Clark, Director of Marketing and Communications at St. Barnabas Hospital.

The center will also include a teaching kitchen, medical fitness center and various clinical offices.
