HOUSTON - George Floyd will be laid to rest in a private funeral in Houston today.

He will be buried at the Houston Memorial Gardens next to his mother.

Thousands have already gathered in Texas this week to say their goodbyes.

Floyd grew up in Houston.

During a memorial Monday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott illustrated how Floyd's legacy will live on.

"This is the most horrific tragedy I have ever personally observed. That George Floyd is going to change the arc of the future of the United States. George Floyd has not died in vain. His life will be a living legacy about the way that America and Texas respond to this tragedy," Abbott said.

Thousands of mourners are also expected to attend a private service before his burial.

The church held a six-hour viewing for members of the public to pay their respects.
