BRONX, N.Y. - The Department of Social Services is responding after a woman says she and her children were placed in a Bronx apartment with roaches and bedbugs.

Naomi Figueroa says her temporary apartment was damaged after a fire, and so she was moved, along with her 1-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter, to a shelter on Seneca Avenue in Hunts Point.

However, Figueroa called the shelter filthy, claiming there was exposed wiring as well as pest infestations.

She says all her complaints have been ignored and reached out to NY1 for help.

"It was horrible I would’ve rather had slept in that other apartment that just got burnt then being here it was just horrible it’s disgusting," Figeuroa said.

The Department of Social Services released a statement saying, "Social services law prohibits us from discussing specific cases, but our the provider at this location has and will continue to work closely with this family to address their concerns."

Sources say exposed wiring or infestation was not found in the apartment, but the provider is continuing to investigate and will work to resolve any issues.
