Traditions are part of the holiday season, and one Rome family has a particularly bright tradition.
The Cook family has taken decking the halls to a whole new level. Starting in the early 1970s, the Cooks put out their first outdoor Christmas decorations.
Now nearly 50 years later, the festive display is bigger than ever. Each year the Cooks add a new piece of Christmas decor to their lawn, which is now well over 100,000 lights.
"My father-in-law and I started to decorate the house because he used to do it before, and then every year we just added and added and we still add," said Simon Koenig, the homeowner of the Cooks house, after the passing of this father and mother-in-law just five years ago.
The Cooks have a long list of siblings which live on the street, including a cousin who can’t get enough of the festivities.
"I love the lights; I love everything which is put up,” said Cindy DeProspero. “And I love everybody who comes by.”
Koenig says it costs him an average of $800 to light up his masterpiece during the holiday season.
