A correction officer has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of woman in the Bronx.
Alain Samba, 42, faces a criminally negligent homicide charge.
Police say around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, the off-duty officer called 911 after he allegedly shot 35-year-old Marie Faye.
The victim, who is believed to be Samba's girlfriend, was found with a gunshot wound to her chest inside the building on Ogden and University avenues in Highbridge.
NY1 spoke with one neighbor who saw emergency crews trying to save Faye.
"I don't know if it was gunshots, but I did hear a lot of banging. I don't know if it was because of NYPD breaking into the apartment, but more or less, by 11 o'clock, this whole block was flooded with cops," the neighbor said. "She had an oxygen mask on and they were pumping her, but that's all I got to say."
In a statement, the Correction Department said, "We grieve over the loss of life and have full confidence that the ongoing investigation will reveal exactly what led to this tragic incident. This is under investigation by NYPD."
