Police have arrested the man accused of slashing a livery driver in Queens over the weekend. He was later also charged with murder in the second degree in the death of a man at a homeless shelter.

Police say 53-year-old William Smith was arrested Monday. He's being charged with attempted robbery in connection with the slashing.

Authorities say it happened around 12:30 a.m. Saturday near a Holiday Inn on Van Cleef Street near the Horace Harding Expressway in Corona.

Smith allegedly tried to rob the driver, 43-year-old Manuel Vera, then slashed him in the back and neck.

Vera was taken to the hospital, where he received stitches.

Smith's wallet and ID were found at the scene.

On Friday morning, a 56-year old man who shared a room with Smith at the 30th Street Men's Shelter in Kips Bay was found lying on his bed with wounds to his neck.
