A Bronx woman was arraigned Friday on second-degree murder charges after officials say she dropped her 6-month-old daughter out her apartment window.
While in court, the judge also ordered a psych exam for Tenisha Fearon, 27, as well as medical attention and protective custody.
Authorities say she dropped Janillah Lawrence just before 2 p.m. Thursday from the sixth floor of a building located at 2200 Tiebout Avenue in Fordham.
Police say she was in the apartment at the time with what they believe are her three other children.
Sources tell NY1 that the children were completely naked when police arrived at the apartment.
Witnesses and neighbors passing by say they were trying to stop Fearon, and say she complained of the devil being inside her.
While leaving the 46th precinct Friday, Fearon exchanged a few words with her godmother, who believes Fearon suffers from mental illness.
"I said to her, I love ya, and I'm going to be there for you.' She told me 'I tried to tell you Miss Luella.' I'm hurt because she needs help now. You could charge her with whatever you want, but if you don't get her the medication and treatment she needs it's not going to work," said the godmother.
Police say the three older children, who range in age between 4 and 10, were not hurt.
They are now in the custody of the Administration for Children's Services.
In a statement, the agency said, "We are currently investigating the circumstances that led to this tragic incident and are actively working to ensure the wellbeing of the three remaining children in this household."
State records indicate Fearon operated a day care out of the same apartment between 2013 and April of this year, but did not renew her license.
Fearon's next court apperance is scheduled for October 21.
