EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Since March 2023, Julie Su has served as the Acting Secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor. She previously held the position of Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Labor Department, as well as California Labor Commissioner.

Su joined "Inside the Issues" host Amrit Singh for a conversation on the state of the U.S. economy and the September jobs report, which showed that employers added 254,000 jobs last month, exceeding economists' expectations.

"The biggest takeaway is that our economy is incredibly strong," Su said of the September jobs report. "We have had a historic economic recovery, 16 million jobs created since the president and the vice president came to office and unemployment levels at near-or-below four percent in the longest stretch since the 1960s."

On the data showing a disconnect between the economic numbers and Americans' perception of the economy, Su maintained that the Biden administration's "Investing in America" agenda has opened new doors to economic opportunities and that the administration continues to tackle inflation.

"The prices of things are still hard for people, that is real," Su said. "That is why we are very focused on doing the things that are needed to address prices."

Su also spoke on the tentative resolution of the recent dockworkers' strike, AI technology in the workplace and more.
