A small number of primary races this week captured the national spotlight, but there were still competitive races taking place on the neighborhood level here in the city.
That includes the 69th Assembly District in Manhattan. Micah Lasher came out on top in the Democratic primary there with 53% of the vote. He was nearly 20 points ahead of his next-closest competitor in the five-way election.
"This is a community that expects a lot of its elected officials,” Lasher said Tuesday night during a victory party. “Not just to do the job well, not just to vote right, but to lead on issues of moral consequence."
Lasher will now compete in the general election to represent the district, which includes large sections of the Upper West Side and up to 125th Street in Morningside Heights.
He joined the “Mornings On 1” team Thursday to discuss what it takes to win local elections and why his campaign succeeded.
