EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — State Sen. Ben Allen, D-Santa Monica, led a press conference Thursday to highlight recovery efforts since the Los Angeles-area wildfires sparked 100 days ago.

“It’s been 100 days of despair, of destruction, but also of resilience, of growth, of rebuilding,” said Allen. “And it’s been 100 days of challenge.”

The state senator highlighted successes over the last three months, including the local Red Cross teaming up FEMA as well as state and local partners to create disaster recovery centers in across the county.

State Sen. Sasha Renée Pérez — whose district includes Eaton Fire-impacted areas such as Altadena and Pasadena — also spoke during Thursday’s conference and detailed SB 610, a bill she co-authored with Allen that would provide greater protections to homeowners, tenants and mobile home users.

“We still have so much work to do,” Pérez said.

LA Mayor Karen Bass later took the podium and highlighted how the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has cleared fire debris from the Palisades Branch Library on Thursday, 24 days ahead of schedule.

“I feel very proud of what we have been able to do, but also the trauma that everyone is still going through, especially people who lost their homes,” said Bass. “We all have a personal connection to this.”

The deadly Palisades and Eaton fires sparked on Jan. 7.
